Fethiye destination guide
Fethiye is a charming costal town in southern Turkey. Modern Fethiye is located on the site of the ancient city of Telmessos, the ruins of which can be seen in the town. The town offers culture, picturesque streets, good nightlife and shopping opportunities and great local markets. The most famous one not to me missed is “The fish market”. It is surrounded by small restaurants that will cook your fish to your liking, at a very reasonable price and of course, delicious.
Fethiye is a smaller city compared to Bodrum or Marmaris. The whole old town is set along a seaside promenade; little stone houses and shady corners. There are many delightful restaurants along this strip and a beautiful walkway to get the chance to enjoy both the gorgeous views and to choose your next eating venue. Or to just sit and relax and enjoy a drink of your choice.
Gulet are anchored at Ece Saray Marina. From here; you can sail along the beautiful Turkish coast; to Fethiye and Gocek area or different site do Oludeniz and Kekova bay.
The town centre is located 60 from Dalaman airport. It is also close to some of Turkey’s best beaches like Oludeniz and fascinating historical sites, such as Kayakoy, Xanthos, Tlos and Aghia Nikola. The Greek island of Rhodes is reachable by daily catamarans across less than 2-hour navigation.
Boarding a gulet in Fethiye
Fethiye Ece Marina is a base port for many beautiful gulets. All gulets enter the port Friday afternoon and almost all leave for next cruise Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. The weekend is extremely busy for gulet staff and us. When cruising Gocek islands from Marmaris you can also decide to stop for the evening at Fethiye Marina.
If you book a cabin charter, you will most probably spend the first and last night in Fethiye. So, you will have plenty of time to visit the town, its markets, maybe try a hammam and enjoy some nightlife.
When chartering a whole gulet for your group, you will probably prefer to start your cruise immediately and maybe to spend the last night at the port. If you want to leave the port the same day make sure your arrival time is before sunset.
